This post is called: HELP
YOUR FUTURE SELF or in other words Learning
Time Management or in other words Things
I Am Bad At.
I was looking up cooking recipes last night and read that
one lady always preps her dinners the night before. She said that she was of
the belief that you should always help your Future Self, because your Future Self
will thank you. And I realized that lately I have not been helping my Future Self
very much. I’ve been procrastinating and putting things off to the last minute
and going to bed a half-hour later than I should and skipping the gym, all with
this in mind: I can do it tomorrow. It will fit better into tomorrow’s schedule
(or this weekend’s schedule or next week’s schedule or next month’s schedule…)
and I really don’t want to do it right now. I have no energy. Later, I will
definitely have energy. I will also probably want to do it (this is never, ever
true).
I’m starting to drown because of it. I am tired in the
morning and I don’t want to get up early enough to pack a lunch so I just snack
until dinner. I go to bed too late so I am sleepy all day and it’s hard to
pay attention in class. I put off big homework assignments until the
weekend, and end up skipping a fun social activity to do my homework instead.
So this is what I am trying to remember:
Things pile up. You always have less time than you think you
have. When you take out a loan, you still have to pay the banker, but now you’re
paying interest too. And what makes you think you’ll have time to do tomorrow what
you didn’t do today?
And so, I am working on it, and I expect my Future Self to
start thanking me pretty soon here because I’m making a lot of sacrifices for her.
Also, it’s only polite.
